MISSION STATEMENT: MOVE International seeks to improve the overall quality of life for people with disabilities and for the people who care for them, regardless of age or cause of disability. MOVE International promotes fuller participation in home, school, work and community life to encourage the dignity and hope such participation brings to each individual.
The mission statement is founded in the belief that the ability to move is the first foundation stone in building personal dignity.
The MOVE Program originated in the 1980s in the Kern County Superintendent of Schools, Bakersfield, California. The MOVE Program is now used in many school districts and other facilities/organizations throughout the United States and many other nations.

Description of Site:
The William S. Baer School is a Baltimore City Public School System school. The program provides education and therapeutic services for 170 students aged 3-21 with severe multiple disabilities and health impairments and 63 non-disabled students, ages 3-5 in a reverse inclusion model program. The four cornerstones of the Baer School program are: academic (Open Court series) and functional (adapted daily living skills) programming, therapeutic feeding, communication and mobility. The Baer School and the MOVE Program have been intertwined for the past 10 years. A multi-disciplinary model approach is utilized throughout the school to deliver services to the children.

- Baer School classes are staffed with one special education teacher and one paraprofessional for each seven students. There is a total of 20 physical, occupational and speech therapists who work with the children.
Other notes of interest:
- The Baer School has its own private Partnership Board which supports the MOVE Program at the school. The school's instructional program includes: a therapeutic aquatics program, a performance-based multi-media program and a full-day pre-school and kindergarten experience. Students move freely in an outdoor courtyard designed for independent mobility in their MOVE equipment. A Boundless Playground and Therapy Park are planned to open in 2002.

- Take 83 to North Avenue and proceed West 2 miles, to Warwick Avenue. Turn right and go up the hill until you see Baer School on the right hand side of the street. A parking lot is provided just beyond the school.
