MOVE International is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. 

MISSION STATEMENT: MOVE International seeks to improve the overall quality of life for people with disabilities and for the people who care for them, regardless of age or cause of disability. MOVE International promotes fuller participation in home, school, work and community life to encourage the dignity and hope such participation brings to each individual.

The mission statement is founded in the belief that the ability to move is the first foundation stone in building personal dignity. 

The MOVE Program originated in the 1980s in the Kern County Superintendent of Schools,  Bakersfield, California.  The MOVE Program is now used in many school districts and other facilities/organizations throughout the United States and many other nations.

Description of Site:
    Maiden Choice School is a public, separate day school which serves the Northwest and Southwest regions of Baltimore County, Maryland. Students are between the ages of 3 and 21 years, and have multiple disabilities, including severe to profound mental retardation, autism, cerebral palsy, and sensory impairments. Many of the students are medically fragile, and approximately one-third are non-ambulatory. Students learn life skills, communication, functional academics, mobility skills, feeding skills, and career/vocational skills.

Other notes of interest:

    Maiden Choice School has received grant funding from the Baltimore County Public Schools system beginning in 1997, which allows the school staff to fully implement the MOVE program with all eligible students each year. In addition to using their mobility equipment to access their educational programs within the school and fully-accessible playground environments, students take weekly trips to community sites such as shopping malls, parks, public libraries, etc. in their equipment.

    Take Baltimore Parkway (I-695) to Exit 12B (Wilkins Avenue East). Take Wilkens Avenue East to Maiden Choice Lane (traffice light)and Turn Right onto Maiden Choice Lane. Take Maiden Choice Lane to Shelbourne Road and Turn Right onto Shelbourne Road. Maiden Choice School is at 4901 Shelbourne Road (on left side of road).
