Independence™ Saddle
Independent Strides Introduces the Independence™ Saddle
The future of horseback riding for those with physical challenges is no longer limited. Adapting and supporting according to the needs of each individual, the Independence™ saddle, and its prompts, allows a person with severe physical challenges to sit independently astride a horse, while the traditional physical dependency on sidewalkers is dramatically decreased.
Independence™ provides opportunities and eliminates barriers that individuals with severe physical challenges experience. By removing barriers, the rider is most capable of participating in recreational or therapeutic horseback riding activities. Riders can safely sit independently, in the saddle, while the traditional physical dependency on sidewalkers is dramatically decreased.
Independence™ offers versitility. The saddle is adaptable to accommodate riders of varying sizes, disabilities, and/or injuries. Once the rider's needs are evaluated, prompts will be determined and provided as needed. Head and back supports provide head and trunk control. Adjustable forearm supports stabilize the arm and shoulder girdle, allowing the rider to lean slightly forward into a functional sitting position. Hip supports stabilize the pelvic girdle. As the rider gains strength, and goals are achieved, prompts may be removed.
Independence™ gives a sense of accomplishment. In addition to providing physical, occupational, and psychological therapeutic opportunities, Independence™ provides each rider an immeasurable sense of success, and self-fulfillment, maximizing their quality of life.

Testimonials
"My first impression when seeing the Independence saddle was the dignity it provides for the rider. As an educator of students with severe multiple disabilites, I love the fact that it provides opportunity to practice mobility skills while in an activity that brings enjoyment to the individual. Karen's creativity in developing the Independence™ saddle, with the philosophy of the MOVE® program, has opened a whole new window of independence for riders with physical disabilities."-Beverly Young, Woodland School
"When I first saw Dylan climbing up on the saddle, I thought he would have a problem with it. Was I ever wrong! It was like he was meant to ride. I could not believe the confidence on his face. He could finally do something he loved – by himself! With his shoulders back, eyes up, and a big smile, I knew he was a changed person. I look forward to Dylan using the saddle in the years to come."

"I am very excited about the Independence™ saddle! All I kept thinking when I first saw it was, 'It's about time'. My daughter, Carly was nervous at first, however, once she was comfortable, she was able to relax and enjoy something she loves without being held on to by someone else. Independence™ will make it much easier for people with disabilities to participate in riding horses for enjoyment and/or therapeutic reasons."
