Description of Site:
Blomfield Special School & Resource Centre is a state funded special
school for students with intellectual and physical challenges, the only such
school north of Wellsford. The school’s base is on Maunu Road and satellite
classes are located at Morningside School and Manaia View School , Whangarei,
and in a classroom at Kaitaia Primary School.
Blomfield Special School & Resource Centre has a “junior MOVE' class”
based at Morningside School, and a “senior MOVE class” at the
base school on Maunu Road. Blomfield Special School & Resource Centre
also supports MOVE students depending on their needs) attending other classrooms/areas
of the school with “non-MOVE students.”
Classes are taught by staff trained in the MOVE Program Basic Provider and
Advanced Provider levels). At the Blomfield Special School & Resource
Centre, there is a team of highly trained and experienced specialist staff
that includes occupational and physiotherapists, and a psychologist.
Any student at the Blomfield School & Resource Center who cannot sit,
stand or walk automatically enters the MOVE Program.

Blomfield Special School & Resource Centre has an indoor heated pool
and a customized adventure playground. . . The pool and playground inject
a lot of fun into students' MOVE programs.
Blomfield Special School & Resource Center is leading a unique nationally
funded research project?Digital Imaging in Special Education (DISE).This project
includes video assessment and evaluation of students' MOVE programs. The information
gathered on the progress of the students in this project is then shared with
families and staff. This project is enhancing communication with families
and providing information to others on the validity of the MOVE Program.
Directions to school:
From Auckland drive north along State Highway 1. Upon entering Whangarei turn
right at the second set of lights onto Maunu Road. The school is No.31, and
can be entered via the shared driveway at 11 Cooke Street or through the entrance
on Maunu Road.
