MISSION STATEMENT: MOVE International seeks to improve the overall quality of life for people with disabilities and for the people who care for them, regardless of age or cause of disability. MOVE International promotes fuller participation in home, school, work and community life to encourage the dignity and hope such participation brings to each individual.
The mission statement is founded in the belief that the ability to move is the first foundation stone in building personal dignity.
The MOVE Program originated in the 1980s in the Kern County Superintendent of Schools, Bakersfield, California. The MOVE Program is now used in many school districts and other facilities/organizations throughout the United States and many other nations.

Description of Site:
- The RISE Learning Center is a public alternative school in Indianapolis,Indiana. Located in the Metropolitan School District of Perry Township, the RISE Learning Center is part of the RISE Special Services Cooperative. The RISE Learning Center serves students with diverse disabilities from ages three to twenty-two years who reside in four school corporations on the south side of Marion County. RISE Learning Center MOVE trainers travel to classrooms throughout the RISE Special Services Cooperative to deliver the MOVE Curriculum and MOVE Program to students for whom MOVE training is recommended by their case conference committee.

Other notes of interest:
- A team of teachers, OT, PT, speech therapist, music and adapted PE teachers in integrated activities works with children in the MOVE Program comprehensively. In addition, children from other classes are teamed with students in the MOVE Program for multiple educational and social activities. An aquatics program is in place and the staff is in the process of developing a formalized program around MOVE principles as well as validation of its effectiveness via research studies.
Directions to school:
- The RISE Learning Center at 5391 South Shelby Street is located just South of I-465 near the US 31 South/Franklin exit. Exit at the US 30 South/Franklin exit and proceed south to the first stoplight (Thompson Road). Turn left (East) on Thompson Road. Shelby Street is the last street on the right (South) side of Thompson Road before you reach Madison Avenue and is directly across from Perry Township Fire Station #1. Turn right on Shelby Street. The RISE Learning Center is on the left (East) side of Shelby Street. You will see a pond with a tall fence around it just before you reach the first entrance to RISE Learning Center. Please park in the parking lot and enter one of the doors in the center of the building.
