The James J. McBride Special Education Center is a public school (Los Angeles Unified School District) serving students with diverse disabilities ages 3-22. The educational program is individualized and varies from self-help skill development to vocational training and job placement.

The James J. McBride Special Education Center offers specially trained classroom teachers, experienced teacher assistants, speech therapists, adapted physical education specialists, psychologists and two full-time nurses. A school pediatrician visits the school once a week. The center serves a wide range of disabilities; from autistic, mentally retarded, orthopedically impaired, emotionally disturbed to developmentally impaired. California Children Services (CCS) therapists provide physical and occupational therapy for eligible students. District physical and occupational therapists available.

Children from nearby public and private elementary schools join with McBride pupils in educational and recreational activities as part of an ongoing interaction program for children in all age groups. A regular swimming program is available at McBride’s onsite pool. The school and staff of McBride are caring and progressive. McBride implemented the MOVE program in 1991.

I-405 to either Washington Boulevard or Venice Street Exit. Go west on Washington Boulevard or Venice Boulevard. From Washington Boulevard, turn right onto Centinella Avenue and the school is on the right side of the street. From Venice Street, turn left onto Centinella Avenue and the school is on the left side of the street.
