Sir Keith Park School is a state school (Govt funded) in the South Auckland area, catering to multi-cultural students who have intellectual and multiple disabilities within the age range of 5 to 21 years. Transport to and from the school is financed by the Ministry of Education for those students who are verified as having ongoing special educational needs. The school is comprised of a Base School and five satellite units. Satellite units are classes of Sir Keith Park students and staff located in a regular school. The Base School has a heated swimming pool on site for swimming and aqua therapy, a house for functional living programmes, a gymnasium and several vans which are used for social education in the community. The school provides an environment which respects the dignity and worth of individual students and fosters the optimum learning of each student at their own level and rate of achievement as set out in all Individual Education Plans in conjunction with the New Zealand Curriculum Framework requirements.
The six main areas of personal development are:
Age range of students: 5 to 21 years
Number of Classrooms using MOVE Programme: 5
Minimum Student/Staff Ratio:
Multiply Disabled Students: 1 teacher, 1 support staff to 5 students
Other students: 1 teacher, 1 support staff to 10 students
- Sir Keith Park School employs specially trained classroom teachers, experienced teacher and special education assistants, and teacher aides. They employ an interdisciplinary therapy team which is comprised of speech-language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and a psychologist. A music teacher is employed two days per week for both individual and group work. All teachers using the MOVE programme, and management, have completed the two day Basic Providers Training, as well as having ongoing staff training at school.
- Sir Keith Park School, in conjunction with whanau (family), is committed to holistic education and individual development of students who have intellectual disabilities enabling them to reach their greatest potential and take their rightful place in our multicultural society.
- Ehara taku toa i te takitahi, Engari he toa takitini - the result of one's work and achievement is the product of many hands. The school motto was chosen to emphasise our philosophy of fostering interdependence skills in all our students.
- Travelling from the city: Join Airport Motorway at Hillsborough Rd. Take first turn off over the Onehunga - Mangere Bridge, and proceed into Mahanga Drive. Turn left at lights into Walmsley Road.
