June 2010 Training Opportunities
MOVE International will hold its thirteenth annual MOVE Trainings/Events sessions June 23-25, 2010 at the Kern County Supt. of Schools Office in Bakersfield, California, USA.
Types of MOVE Training Opportunities
MOVE International as an organization does not provide direct services to children and adults with severe disabilities. Instead, MOVE International provides training to families, care providers, and professionals who in turn work directly with children and adults with severe disabilities. This greatly increases the number of clients who are impacted by MOVE International. MOVE International offers several types of MOVE Training Opportunities (see following descriptions).
ARRANGING A MOVE TRAINING IN YOUR LOCAL AREA
Two-Day Basic Provider Training Program (for children)
Cost: $2,900 plus trainer's expenses for the first 25 people in attendance, $75 for each additional attendee.

Course objectives are: 1) To learn how to determine eligibility for the MOVE Program, 2) To understand the six steps of the MOVE Program and how to use the MOVE Curriculum and Assessment Profile, 3) To learn how to test and evaluate students/clinets in order to design an individualized program for developing mobility skills for more active involvement and participation in the home and community, and 4) To learn how to use equipment and common furniture as instructional tools. This training also allows attendees to practice using the MOVE Program with students/ clients.
Upon successful completion of this training, attendees are certified to use the MOVE Program and Curriculum as MOVE Basic Providers, but ARE NOT certified to teach and certify others as MOVE Basic Providers.

These follow-up clinics are individualized to focus on the particular needs of the site, i.e. problem solving, equipment, assessments, etc. The MOVE trainer sent by MOVE International for the clinic works as part of the site's team to help find solutions to challenges regarding use of the MOVE Program.

One-Day MOVE Hygiene & Toileting Seminar (for children and adults)
Cost $1,900 for one day plus trainer's expenses for the first 50 people in attendance, $75 for each additional attendee.
The MOVE Hygiene and Toileting seminar is an introductory course on how to use the MOVE Hygiene and Toileting Program Guidebook with children AND adults. This seminar explains four functional levels of success (the focus is on "continence opportunities" rather than toilet training) with a six step systematic step-by-step process. The first three steps define the learner's current skills, the support need to implement the program and establishment of a basic toileting routine. The last three steps delineate the most critical skills to address and the methods for improving and recording the skills.
This seminar explains how to do diaper/brief changes from a vertical position (even for non-weight bearing individuals) rather than from a horizontal position on change tables, floor mats or in beds. This seminar also explains a method for transitions/transfers of larger children and adults that significantly reduces and/or eliminates lifting.
Most of the population addressed with this program will not become totally independent in toileting themselves.
This seminar provides attendees opportunities to practice using the MOVE Hygiene and Toileting Program with children/adults
Who should attend the above MOVE Trainings/Clincs/Hygiene & Toileting Seminars?
MOVE is based on a team approach. Typically, participants include parents, guardians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, educators, program directors, paraprofessionals, administrators, nursing staff and/or any other personnel deemed appropriate to attend.
ONLY AVAILABLE IN BAKERSFIELD, CA
